Head of Technical & NPD

I have partnered exclusively with Europe’s fastest-growing Food Business to search for a Head of Technical & New Product Development. My client has recently invested €30 million in expanding its world-class facility located in the Midlands, the business is expected to double in the next 3-4 years.

The successful candidate will lead, grow and motivate a talented and established team of NPD, NPI, Technical and Quality Assurance Professionals. They will have overall responsibility for managing and supporting the delivery of innovative high quality products working closely with all internal teams in delivering business results.

This is a customer-facing role and will involve meeting clients from Ireland and the U.K. Using a combination of product and process knowledge, you will be responsible for the development of products from concept to delivery, using stage gate.

This role will suit Food Industry Professionals located in Longford, Athlone, Mullingar and Carrick-On-Shannon.

Please note: suitable candidates will be scheduled for interviews in the coming months depending on Government travel restrictions.

Role & Requirements:

  • Own the development lifecycle and responsibility for managing technical risks throughout projects.
  • Provide technical direction for the development, design, and systems integration for customer engagement from definition phase through implementation.
  • Apply significant knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve consumer knowledge to our customers.
  • Assess product development deficiencies and implements effective solutions prior to factory trial execution.
  • Execute the effective management of all the aspects of scale up trials through the NPI process teams.
  • Identify competent raw material suppliers that will support innovation at competitive pricing.
  • Ensure Quality Management and Systems Compliance and quick reactive responses to customer enquiries on all aspects of product quality, food health and safety concerns.
  • Manage all customer audit requirements (BRC/PIU/Ethical/etc.).
  • Comply with and help to enforce best practice standards throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Manage customer interaction and expectations regarding new product development projects.
  • Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships through consistency panel evaluation and quality improvement plans.
  • Manage and develop the Technical, NPD and Quality teams through the Performance Management Process; facilitates effective team interaction.
  • Deliver the budget targets for the department.
  • Develop and implement the next phase of the company’s sustainability program.
  • Lead the development of the Origin Green Strategy.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual, internal meetings and external reporting.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Third level degree in Food Science or similar
  • NPD/Technical/Quality Management experience - Consumer Food/Bakery - Minimum 8 years
  • Experienced with Irish & UK Retailers and/or Food Service companies
  • Demonstrate successful development & launch achievements
  • Creativity & Innovation
  • Strong Leadership, Influencing, Interpersonal & Relationship Building skills
  • Strategic & Analytical Thinker
  • Excellent Planning, Organising and Time Management skills
